About Hanwei.
Since the 1990’s Hanwei have produced some of the best swords in the world, sadly in December 2024 Hanwei (founded by Paul Chen) closed their doors. There are no more Hanwei swords available, this is your last chance to buy and own a genuine Hanwei practical plus katana SH2073. We have two imperfect practical plus katana, we have them advertised separately and labelled as A or B.

The imperfections.
We have replaced the saya (sheath to this sword), using our very own branded high gloss lacquer saya, you can choose either old gold saya or black. The tsuka ito is faux leather and has began to peel in places, as always Hanwei wrapped their handles very well so the handle wrap is still very tight and very comfortable. There are spotting blemishes in the hamon to this sword. That is the imperfections, the sword is very much still perfect and remains super sharp.

About the sword.

The Practical Plus Katana provides a very economical cutting sword as dependable as the Practical Katana (SH1070), but using more traditional fittings and construction methods. The blade is forged and differentially tempered (HRC60 edge, HRC40 back) and the hamon is prominent. The Practical Plus features genuine Same (Rayskin) on the Tsuka, with a wrap (Tsuka-Ito) specially developed for its gripping qualities. The long tang is double-pegged for security. The fittings of the Practical Plus are decorated in a Japanese Dogwood motif with dragon menuki, and the handsome Tsuba is of an iron.
