With its unique blade design, which some believe was inspired by the Indian Talwar, it became so popular that it continued to serve in the German Cavalry until the early 20th century. The blade is partially sharpened: it is blunted from the hilt to about the halfway point, and then sharpened from there to the tip, following the traditional design of cavalry swords from that era.
